Update: Here is an article all about reverse image search which I just wrote and posted on transients.info: https://www.transients.info/2016/10/reverse-image-search-websites-copyright-online/

I use this site a lot, http://www.tineye.com/, as it helps me find the owner of an image so I can see if I can use it in articles I write on transients.info and other places. It searches the internet and tries to match the image you specify. It then sorts the results by date if you chose that filter.

This is just helpful to see what licence is sitting on the image I may find, which hopefully would be a creative commons or public domain result. It is not normal to not be able to find the owner/original spot it was posted based on the results.

I just wanted to remind everyone about this site above, but also all the other options you have—linked to in my article—for looking up the source of an image.
