The first image above is of an oil painting, The Gleaners, by Jean-François Millet, from 1857.

It shows three female peasants gleaning a field of stray stalks of wheat after the harvest. It's famous for featuring, in a sympathetic way, what were then the lowest ranks of rural society; this was received poorly by the French upper classes.

The second image above is by Julie Nahon, this year, and is titled The Cleaners. It's a similar take on Ward Kimball's, The Gleaners, from 1964.

From a creative perspective, it's interesting how people take one idea and mould it into something else while keeping the original essence.
