I saw it last night - very interesting.
Sapphires and rubies are the same base gem stone. The different "impurities" give them their color.
Using non jewelry grade diamonds that have occlusions of soil to estimate when the tectonic plates started moving was an eye opener.

I watched the one about metals today, and it was one of the most interesting programs I've seen recently.
They are working on a foam metal that can be reused to create different shapes - a screwdriver now and a hammer later.
I think only people in the US can watch programs on our public broadcasting system. If you can watch these programs, be sure to tune in.
