The shift of the magnetic poles of eatth is well a subject for certain people here but what is all behind. Let s regroup our knowledge on it here.

As you note above, therium, the things I notice most in those (awesome!) graphs are that the magnetic N pole had been hovering over the European side of the geographic N pole for most of the 'AD years' (I think one of the graphs started in the year 200 AD, another was similar), then bent toward NAmerica toward 1900... though this information doesn't seem to completely agree between the 2 + 3rd images. The first image then shows it leaving what I think is Northern NAmerica straight out toward what would be Europe since 1900 and this one shows the pace of travel increasing rapidly, as you say.
