The clue is at least in the English language very obvious. DOG spelled backwards is the 'anadrome' or 'semordnilap' (perfectly reversible anagram / palindrome) of GOD. No coincidence.
There is famous book about a pilot's life in the early 1940's - God is My Co-pilot. Many pilots, who've been in life and death situations, speak of the "extra pilot" in the cockpit. Very cool - I'm impressed. However, I feel the musician misinterpreted what the cat was saying. I believe it was giving fair warning that the hand was about to be shredded.Doom break!
