It's a misleading because it is rhetorical and another example for sth quoted out of context which makes you arrive at the opposite conclusion. He is just explaining that Trump attracts a lot of people angry with the system, he is sympathetic with these people and (claims to) understand them but he is not 'with them' on the issue of who should be president. If you listen to other interviews on tele or the whole 'movie' called Trumpland with him it gets clear which side he's on. He's a Hillary endorser and supporter.
