The title of this board comes from the words of far-sighted leaders. In one version, attributed to Thomas Jefferson (author of the American Declaration of Independence and the third president of the very young United States of America), he wrote:

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

Another source of the quote is John Philpot Curran, a lawyer living in Ireland in the late 1700s through the early 1800s. He took up many cases about freedom for minority classes. He wrote:

It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt.
In the USA, it has been a slow slide into poor health and education, rising taxes and diminishing income - to name a few. Bit by bit, people have lost the ability to think critically and ask questions. Before the virus, they were tired from long work hours and not in the best of health from all the tainted and sugar-laden food. After the virus, well, for most people anything resembling their previous life stopped. Basically, much of the population lined up to be told what to think and didn't even realize it.

Yet, some are aware and more are waking up. This is where this board comes into play. Most of the threads here will be about events, and we need to be aware of them regardless of where they occur because they will affect the world. While we look at these events, I believe we ultimately are taking in the the ideas that brought them about, as well as those that will lead us forward.

Please add comments and even new threads about what you thing and see. Along that line, most of the virus info is on another board - https://www.transients.info/roundtable/forums/coronavirus/

Listened to a podcast with the author of the Devolution posts. He sounds like a regular guy who is trying to make sense of what is going on - no artifice or puffery. He noticed some odd actions and took a deep dive into the why and wherefore, which is revealing a new understanding of the idea of continuity of government.
