This is a fascinating area that folks seem to assume we know everything about, at least everything that is important to know. Because, after all, we've been living with electricity for so long!
Trouble is, we don't have that much decent research and what we have is not well known. Not too surprising, perhaps, since who really wants to give up all those modern conveniences? Who would want to pay for a revision of our electric grids and the systems that rely on them? Who would pay for such research? Of course, (catch 22) until that research is done we don't know how to protect ourselves
The incentives are just not lined up (at present) for good research to get done and recognized.
