One of the weirdest lookin' creatures with the coolest name: Hypostomus "plecostomus". Aka suckerfish. You know some of these guys can live out of water for up to 30 hours?? That's insane! How many of us can say we can hold our breath for the entire day?

Love it. I'm a lefty - and try teaching a lefty how to crochet. The right-handed person has to hold a mirror up so the lefty can view the actions inverse to the way it is being done!

I recently read that a 'trencher' was an eating implement of sorts in Europe in the Middle Ages. It was a flat 'trench' of bread used to help lift food into the mouth. Apparently it was ideally about 4 days old so that it stayed intact even when dipped in sauce.
This was a book explaining how tools historically came to be what they are and was discussing how forks came to have 4 tines and a slightly curved shape. I guess if you didn't have a trencher of 4 day old piece of bread to help your food into your mouth you were out of luck at that time as forks hadn't yet come into use.
Unless you were in Asia, in which case you'd have chopsticks for the job.

boondoggle

MEANING:
noun: 1. A pointless project funded as a political favor.
2. A holiday trip to an exotic location, disguised as a business trip.
3. Braided cord, made of plastic strips, fabric, etc.

3. To braid plastic strips, fabric, etc.

NOTES:
The original boondoggle was a braided cord made by Boy Scouts. In 1935, a New York Times article quoted someone criticizing a New Deal program to train jobless to make handicrafts as a boondoggle. Since then this sense of the word has become more common.

USAGE:
"Carl softly released the boondoggle, letting the gust lift it up into the air, hoping the kite attached would stay attached. Was this a pointless endeavor? A boondoggle, one could say? He pondered on while texting a friend, telling him about his work that happened to be located nearby an exotic beach in Thailand; the friends response: "Sounds like a boondoggle to me, mate."

Ailurophobia began to set in; speedily he opened his door, getting inside as fast as possible. Later that day, after posting about his dreadful experience on the Roundtable and getting some great advice from Pod, he saw on the news that the cat shelter had a plumbing issue and were relocating their felines when a flat tire caused the accident.”
