While not an ancient civilization, this horse is meant to be one of the oldest breeds in existence today. Said to be one of the most beautiful horses in the World, the Akhal-Teke is a horse breed from Turkmenistan, where they are a national emblem. They have adapted to severe climatic conditions because of where they were based. With a reputation for endurance, speed, intelligence, and a distinctive metallic sheen, their shiny coat of buckskins and palominos led to the nickname "Golden Horses". Akhal was the name of the line of oases along the north slope of the Kopet Dag mountains.
