Having had a background in HR (Human Resources) in the world of business and corporations, I know how important it is to develop the listening ear, impartiality, non-prejudice, and an appreciation for structure and policies and procedures - because they are the glue that keeps the organisation ticking over in a healthy way. HR Managers are often women (but not always) because empathy is a needed quality in the interface between business models and humanity. This article (and radio blog post within the link) explains the experience of an IT contractor working in Los Angeles who experienced what it is like to be fired by email (and have all his security clearances voided, accesses denied, swipe card terminated, etc, and ultimately be shown the door by two security guards who were told to do so by an automated system.)
Not I personally, but many apparently nowadays rely on their automated devices for simple tasks. If business has taken this route and gone too far down the path - we must question where we are headed.
An interesting read/listen about a real worklife problem facing modern employees.
