    Why is it so quiet when there's snow on the ground?

    There is a reason behind the calming silence of snow. When white fluffy snow builds up on the ground, it becomes an absorber of sound. The layer of snow dampens sound waves. Maybe that's another reason why I prefer winter! (It's summer here right now.)
