If we could see the Andromeda Galaxy with the naked eye, this is what it would look like in our sky, to scale.

This is the nearest major galaxy to the Milk Way, where we are.

The Spitzer Space Telescope revealed in 2006 that the Andromeda Galaxy contains around one trillion stars; we have so much focus just on our Sun, one star out of trillions—the Milk Way is said to be similar in size to Andromeda.

The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are expected to collide in about 4.5 billion years, merging to form a giant elliptical galaxy.
