I came across this short video/gif of a quartz geode being cracked open.

I think it's very educational as many people out there don't realize how crystals can form inside rocks like this. It can be common to think that they grow on the surface, or roof, such as inside caves.

In fact, that would make a great thread: How do crystals form?

I wouldn't say no to a backyard full of these rocks to crack open.

Our local rock shop has bins of these for sale - not expensive. I had an idea for a geode cracking party, but I did not get any takers - mostly looks of "there goes Linda again"........ lol.
