By false awakening I am referring to "waking" up and believing that you are awake, only to realize it was all just a dream when you really do wake up.

I did this twice last night, I "woke" up, and then realized that it was a dream, then I did it again. I do this more often than I wish I did, but the second time around I could really feel a heaviness that was a dead give away.

The last time I found myself in a dream, within a dream, within a dream a black cat came to me and told me my mother had cancer and needed to get treatment. Sure enough a couple months later my mother started having a lot of health problems and after months of being turned away by doctor's because, it was "all in her head" she finally got diagnosed with cancer. She of course, thought I was crazy at the time I told her lol

Is there something to this?? I just feel like it's happening more and more often. Also, within this state what sort of things can I explore further??

Many thanks in advance<3 :)

I don't recall this happening to me, but then I don't recall so many dreams, so who knows?
Have you tried to track this? It sounds like it happens often for you, so is there anything you can relate it to? There are a few people on the site who have recommended dream journaling. I like it myself. Perhaps that would help you find some pattern?

Reading your experiences reminded me of a book called 'Mult-Dimensional Man' by Juergen Ziewe, he has been visiting other dimensions for forty years. He spends a long time meditating then goes to bed, falls asleep and wakes up just like you. He explains how he makes sure he is fully conscious by counting the blade of grass or pebbles or whatever, and checking he is asleep in his bed. Then he travels to many different dimensions, some close to the earth, some much much higher. When he returns he keeps his eyes shut and goes over his experience thoroughly, otherwise he forgets much,of it, then he immediately records it. This is how the book came about. I wondered if it could help you to understand what is happening to you. Thought it was worth a mention. If what you are experiencing is the same as this guy I think it's wonderful, I don't get anything near it. :(<3

This is an indication to you that you are not just ready to leave your dreams and project out of body, but that your consciousness is growing and you’re at an important point on this spiritual journey.

Dream premonitions are to be expected. It’s a common occurrence for people, but the main issue there is that they don’t realize they are seeing the future, especially if they don’t record down their dreams as they will forget them. Premonitions are often hard to interpret, where some are more straight forward as well.

Becoming conscious in a dream is the first step to using a dream to project out of body. If you become conscious you are dreaming, within a dream, then that is the moment you can use techniques to project.

The book and author I quoted in that response to you on your other thread will help you a lot here, especially his other books after that one, as his first two contain practical techniques.

You can also perform exercises during the day to encourage your consciousness to become aware you are dreaming so you can project in the dream. These are called reality checks.

The more you focus on something during waking hours, such as reading books about this topic, doing exercises, meditation and focusing the mind, then the more frequently you will experience the topic you are focused on — in this case if you are dreaming you will have more success with being conscious, but also spontaneous astral projection.

If you become conscious in a dream, you can then make requests such as saying “clarity now” or “awareness now”, so you become more in control and shift away from the actual dream to a space/plane in the astral or another dimension above. When you first begin out of body travel you will likely be in the astral , the 5th dimension, though, as it takes experience and sometimes assistance to go beyond.

You could request “higher self now” to return to your source while conscious, or you can ask for your guide to appear. “I request to see my guide,” or you could put in the through to travel to where your guide is. It all depends upon your understand of what makes up your existence and consciousness, so if you don’t believe in something, yet that something is actually real, that will be a block for you.

You could ask for spiritual guidance, while conscious, or you could tell yourself to leave the dream. Commands to your consciousness are powerful. “Next level now” is a powerful affirmation as well, as then you will move beyond the dream to the next level up; but that level will be based on what you are ready for, as in the state of your consciousness.

If you can develop the skill to travel out of body, your spiritual growth will greatly expand.

Wow. Thank you so much. I can't wait to give those a try.

This last time when I "woke up" again, I felt like I was literally peeling myself off the bed and
for brief moment I could see from two different perspectives at the same time, as I was sitting up and while was still lying down. This has never happened before.

It didn't occur to me that a simple command or request is all that it would take. Thanks again and wish me luck :)

The less pleasant part is thinking you are awake and trying to move but not able to.
Are you talking about sleep paralysis or while still in a dream?

I couldn't move in this last dream at first, I eventually peeled myself up. If you're referring to sleep paralysis, I've had that quite often as well, not nearly as scarey as it was when I was a kid.

After I became more active in meditation, I practiced disconnecting from my body and go into a state of just being, if that makes sense. It helped make those experiences a lot less unpleasant.

Thank you June, Very interesting! I'll have to find that book and give it a read.

To add, just because, you haven't gotten there yet doesn't mean you won't. Stay away from any limiting thoughts, it will serve you well. After all you're only as limited as you allow yourself to be.

Thank you so much again *Hugs* <3 :D

I guess I refer to sleep paralysis, but I don't like the term. I mean, it is natural not to be able to move by will when you are asleep. It gets a bit more unpleasant when you have the feeling you are watched by an entity, or even receiving a kiss on the cheek by one. Well, it is definitely not the most negative thing that can happen to you.
And, of course, those can be just regular dreams, lol.

So that is what astral sight is. What happened is that you had access to both memories as when you project a copy of your consciousness goes out, as we exist simultaneously in two places — well, we are other places, but two locally down here — this is what happens at death as well, but the copy back in our physical dies with the physical, it's just we shift to our emotional/astral body. (C.W. Leadbeater and Annie Besant (Theosophical Society) coined the astral body the "emotional body". Our emotions/ego take control of our experiences in the astral and above, if we haven't learnt to stop them acting and reacting automatically)

I've experienced it and had my own encounter, but which I felt was actually myself, even though my mind thought it was some kind of ET based on the form I saw. I look at it as a positive thing, not negative, as if we can experiecne that stage consciously, that means we are developing. It's the in-between being asleep and splitting out into the astral body, so only one more step is required to leave your body. It's an opportunity to take a hold of, so a very positive thing.

You can focus on your toes and that can wake you up, or you can use projection techniques and leave your body, shifting out of the paralyzed state.

Laron, that is a treasure trove of ideas in those last couple of posts: what one can do while consciously dreaming, names for the various states, perspectives, opportunities one can take. etc Thank you!

False awakenings were common for me during my earlier and busier projection and dream journalling years.

E.g. it happened once or twice that I got up from bed, thinking what a cool dream or even lucid projection I had and that I need to write it all down. Then I did not find the papers to write on. After a while they materialised. I somehow then noted that I am still in a dream trying to memorise and document the one before it. :)| :fp

Also, it happened often that I woke up when I noticed the light switches did not function properly. Btw, this is a frequent reality check recommended for lucid dreamers anyway.

A very early experience happened to me as a traveller in a hotel in London in 2003. Here's the original copy from my online journal - btw, for those who don't know yet by my misleading ava/nick, I'm a man in this life, just in case the electric razor, so important to this experience, should make you wonder or even startle a little :D:

First "False Awakening": London Hotel (The Plug)

(As said above, this is a memory transcript I do right now the first since it has not been recorded yet, just referenced as in the 2009-entry above.)

I had just checked in late that day in a London hotel on my company's account. I was very nervous and had my alarm clock set several times. I did not want to miss the start and to be too late in the office the next morning. It was my first time in our English subsidiary then. I somehow had a feeling or anxiety that I might miss it by oversleeping because I would not hear the alarm clock or it would have been forgotten to be set.

During the night in that bed I woke up (for real) several times and checked if the alarm clock really was set with the little button pulled out. It was. So I went to sleep again.

The next mornig the alarm clock went off and I was happy that I did not miss it. I got up and was busy immediately. I put on my clothes. I reflected a bit on the day ahead. I might have eaten sth (not sure). I went to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth. I washed myself. Then I decided to have an electric shave. I fetched my electric razor from my bag and went back to the bathroom. All was business as usual. I might also have checked the clock again to make sure I was not too late. In the bathroom I was about to put the cable and plug into the socket. It was a European socket.

Wait a minute! This is not possible. Why is that? I'm in England, they have three slots, not two holes like we have, and the plug's form is different. Why is it European/German? And I have bought an adapter even.

This is what was to be expected actually:

That woke me up. I glanced at the alarm clock, afraid that I might have missed the right time. But it was just a few minutes early, a few minutes (or even one? not sure anymore) before the alarm would have gone off to awake me. Another possibility is that the timer indeed DID go off an this awoke me (I do not remember this clearly), but my realisation that sth wasn't right was definitely the thing that woke me up anyway in the dream.

Sinera, that is quite a dream you describe. I hope you do not mind that I was laughing throughout, as it reminded me of so many :)|s:p :oops:types of moments in my own life<3 Thank you for sharing!
Another thing that comes to mind is the interplay with the clock. When traveling or when anxious that I did wake up in time for an appointment, plane trip, etc, I have had the experience of waking up, as you say above, a couple of minutes ( or even one minute) before the alarm was about to go off. I even felt, eventually, that I could train myself to do this, at least to some extent.
Mentioning it to family members, I have found that sometimes they do it too.

Is this a more general phenomenon? I'm curious...

Yes, this is possible. I often have this. Only in maybe 50% (or more) of the cases I am not woken up by the alarm clock, it's often a few minutes earlier for me.
