The east side of Austin and beyond is known as the Blackland Prairie and has long been used for cultivation. However, the population growth in central Texas and the demand for housing are encroaching on our best crop land.

Enter Sean Garretson and his plan for an agrihood that features sustainable agriculture and cooperative ownership and governance. It is a short and interesting article - another case of people making a change one piece at a time. BTW - they also have a brewery on site.

An agrarian community is a master-planned residential development built around a farm instead of a golf course or shopping center. Similar agrihoods are spread across the country in Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, and Vermont; a 1,150-acre agrarian development called Harvest is underway in Argyle, Texas, near Denton.
