My intention is to alert as many people possible of this security breach that affects 143 million people in the US, as well as some in Canada and the UK.
From Equifax - The information accessed primarily includes names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver’s license numbers. In addition, credit card numbers for approximately 209,000 U.S. consumers, and certain dispute documents with personal identifying information for approximately 182,000 U.S. consumers, were accessed. As part of its investigation of this application vulnerability, Equifax also identified unauthorized access to limited personal information for certain UK and Canadian residents. Equifax will work with UK and Canadian regulators to determine appropriate next steps. The company has found no evidence that personal information of consumers in any other country has been impacted.
Their site also has a place to check to see if you are affected. Some of our family have done the check and the responses so far are - does not appear you are affected and - check back in 2 weeks. The company is offering 2 years of free credit monitoring. https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/

Zerohedge has more on the story http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-09-07/massive-data-breach-equifax-many-143-million-social-security-numbers-hacked
Again, my intent is to share info so you can decide what steps are best for you and not to get into a discussion about how screwed up these businesses are. We already know that.
