One of my children has been having night terrors over the last few weeks. What is the significance of these and what can I do to help resolve this problem?

We currently use black tourmaline, lavender EOs, Epsom salt baths, co-sleeping, limiting dairy, and limiting exposure to TV/books/content that could be troubling. I'm also clearing the house with sage again now...

He cannot remember what is causing him to scream, cry out in fear and pain, and writhe about (sometimes for up to 15 minutes) so I am going on my observations and knowledge of my child so far.

MORE SLEEP!!!
...By whatever means you can manage.

We had this incredibly disruptive issue in our household at one point and it was exhausting for all of us, and quite terrifying not knowing what our child was going through, looking like they are awake but not responding:nail:((:)|

We parents instituted much earlier bedtimes, with some difficulty. Grandma came up with a bribe system to get the children into bed (I am not a fan of bribery, especially via candy but was desperate enough to look the other way). Reading before bed worked so well eventually that the kids would fall asleep predictably after x number of short stories (same book every night:p) that even with a child wide awake a few sentences before the end, the snooze would start, predictably, by the last sentences. Now that was a kid desperate for sleep!... despite using everything available (kicking feet and punching hands included) to emphatically say "I'm not tiiiiired!!!!"

It was all very worth it:-D<3

If one considers the possibility of reincarnation, I always wonder if it's some kind of "remembrance" from a/the previous life that they revisit in their dreamtime. I recall having lots of nightmares of drowning as a small child--even though I don't recall any kinds of close calls in water at that age. Now, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that might have been the way I died in a previous or my immediately prior life.

There have been times when I've awakened in the morning and recalled running through numerous, numerous scenarios while I slept--and it almost felt as if I had been taking some kind of unconscious final exam. I suspect our consciousness "steps away" from the physical body while the body sleeps...and we do a majority of our spiritual work during that time. Sometimes when I'm aware of my busy-ness during the night, I wake up feeling more tired than I was when I went to bed! :D

I have felt, in that semi-dream state before sleep or awakening, that I was running through scenarios, in fact, sometimes trying them out and changing course. There is, of course, none of that annoying 'practicality' during sleep. Any scenario can happen. In dreams, people can, and do, have superpowers, invent new ones for themselves and their companions, environment, etc:ROFL:

This does remind me a bit of the 'test-taking' you mention:nail

I used to find the need to sleep frustrating, wanting to do more while awake.
Increasingly, I am finding that I look forward to a good sleep and wonder what I'll recall.
This seems to me rather a big benefit to aging<3

And my children have taught me, without a doubt, how precious and vital their sleep time iso:)

I had one of the best dreams ever last night - lucidly - so while sleeping I decided to snuggle down under the covers and continue the dream - which was hilarious. Apart from writing a whole novel word for word (wish I had woken up and written it down!) I saw myself as a little ant like figure with the film speeded up by 10 times - running hither and thither at warp speed, doing everything. Good, thought my dreamy self, I am getting everything done and I can snuggle down here and keep warm while it is happening. Speeding up the film 10 times was the best way to get everything that needed to be done finished in one night.

As far as night terrors are concerned, I think they come on for children who are 6 or 7 approximately. This is my intuitive thought - I don't know the accepted theory. By this age, the soul is more settled into its Earth body and journey, and is by now fully aware of its own expectations of itself, via its contract that it willingly signed up to before entering the world's stage. These contracts contain many layers and sometimes deal with intransigent problems that may have persisted through many lifetimes. Maybe this life will be an "aha" moment. Sometimes, in the design stage before acceptance of its own contract, a soul can heap on many complex things to achieve. I think night terrors are just the adjustment of the journey and all that it entails, and perhaps the realisation that playing it out for real here in 3D, some of those complex issues are on the graduation playlist, not just the kindy summer play. I know I had many tsunami dreams when I was approximately that age and a little older - not that I ever think I will be in a tsunami, but it was probably a feeling of overwhelm.

Does this resonate with you at all, Mamapaige?

mamapaige We have noticed something similar with our 14 month old son. He starts screaming with his eyes still closed after about 40 mins to 1 hour of falling asleep. This usually repeats itself a couple of times until he settles for the night. We co-sleep as well and I use an essential oil diffuser in the bedroom. In my opinion this happens when he is over-tired and over-stimulated. So I agree with Lila the best thing to do is to experiment with their sleep schedule.

I don't have my son on a schedule, nor have I sleep trained him. I've always followed his lead and let the natural routine set in. Nevertheless I notice that he can sometimes loose track of this routine, especially when he is going through a leap or growth spurt or when he is teething. Honestly it feels like there is always something going on! But in these times I try to put him to bed earlier.

In my desperate moments I've done quite a bit of thinking and reading. Am now making a dream catcher for my son, incorporating some stones that are soothing, calming and can help with night terrors etc. For example, Charoite aids with insomnia and difficulty settling into sleep, and Chrysoprase protects children suffering from frequent nightmares. Moreover, Prehnite alleviates nightmares, phobias and deep fears...

Am not sure how old your child is but if s/he is old enough you could incorporate a bedtime ritual with some crystals. Here is an example by one mama (full article: http://naturealmom.com/crystals-for-kids-energy-muse-giveaway/):

"I started using this kit with the boys as part of their bedtime routine or when I would like them to be calm and relaxed. I begin by laying the boys down comfortably and waving a Selenite cleansing crystal about a foot over their bodies from head to toe a few times before performing the circling to cleanse their energy fields. Then I place the Fluorite point on their third eye, in between the eyebrows, with the point facing upwards towards the top of their head. Next, I have them hold the Fuchsite stones in their hands. Lastly, I take the Quartz point and draws three circles around their bodies to connect and unite the energy of the crystals on their bodies. They are mesmerized by these crystals and the sense of peacefulness that they bring!"

I hope this helps! X
