We have a sweet gum tree in the backyard that struggled through the 7-year drought. We did everything we could to keep it going, but the weather took a toll. Last week a freak micro-burst wind snapped the top of it. There was not enough canopy to sustain the tree, so the tree guys will be here shortly to take it down.

This tree is an important place for the wildlife - good cover, a cool spot to rest, even a place for a burrow at the base. I went out last night to explain what would happen today and shared that I honored and loved it for its service to all of us. I was heart broken (tearing up now). All of a sudden my hands, which were on the trunk, got very hot. It was a tremendous energy exchange. This morning I was talking to it again and felt a wave of energy. My whole body lit up, and I understood its spirit was moving out to everything around it.

And, it is done.

A couple of the guys laid down in the grass under the trees in the front yard for a bit. I've noticed several people like to rest there.

If it isn't too late, perhaps you could make a nice log bench out of the trunk? That'd be a great way to honor the tree, as well as to keep a part of it around "in service" for awhile longer...

:)

<HUG> for the transition of your woody family member...

I think many people and wildlife are drawn to you and your home, Linda, there is magic around you, you are a very special lady.
This place has been my home in other lifetimes - I definitely have a link here.

So, this afternoon I got cussed out by a squirrel. The yellow belly squirrels have a route from the front yard to the back via the neighbor's tree to our roof, to the little oak tree, to the power lines, and to the sweet gum tree. I heard the thump on the roof and turned in time to see the squirrel moving along the power line. It ran its usual number of steps and paused looking for the tree and walked a few more steps, still looking. Then it turned around and started back, saw me, and when it got to the oak tree, boy did it let out a string of what could only be squirrel insults.

You do make me laugh, I pictured this squirrel waving its arms really having a go at you.

What is the name of the children's book with the guy who does everything imagibable w the apple tree (eat apples, climb, swing, etc) until it is cut down and he sits on the trunk and finds himself sying goodbye?

I said goodbye to some trees used as hedges in our yard which had no room to grow so we're all bent out of shape, twisted and so cut back that they were looking more and more barren. I cried too. No heat that I felt at the time, though I did feel a lot of love.
I put my new garden there which seems to be doing well. When I pick up random rocks, shells, WOD bits, etc, they end up making up the path around the garden now. This keeps everyone happy as I have a magical place to put my lovelies and it keeps them in a special p!Ace in the yard.

We decided to plant another sweet gum tree this fall. It just feels like the right thing to do.

The squirrels continue to be confused, but are not fussing at me any more.

I told my husband about the energies I felt. He looked at me for a moment then asked if this meant I would turn green. I happen to have some green hair chalk that I did not use last Halloween. I'm thinking about putting in some green streaks and see what he says. :p

Oh yes,Linda, green chalk in hair preparing hubby for Halloween when you can come as Shrek. He's so lovely and green and his ears are to die for. Hubby won't be able to stop himself falling in love with you all over again.:D.

It's called 'The Giving Tree'. I have a hard time reading it sometimes.

When I consider the humble but versatile apple, I realise that devas and other co-creating spirits drew a conscious blueprint for a tree that not only gives apple scent, apple blossom, apple fruit, apple leaves, and apple shade, but also one that can travel around the world, via apple seed (think Johnny Appleseed!) The extraordinary yet lasting design is something to ponder!
