Russell Targ, a parapsychologist, physicist, author remote viewer and pioneer in the development of lasers and laser applications, did a half hour talk as part of a daylong programme — “Brother, Can You Spare a Paradigm?” — at the Vortex Immersion Dome in Los Angeles (US) on April 14th, 2013.
Back in 1972, Targ and Harold Puthoff coined the term, “remote viewing”, so he was also one of the earlier people to develop and investigate this psychic ability in modern times.
In the 1970’s and 80’s, Russell Targ co-founded the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), which was all about the investigation into the psychic abilities. His work into remote viewing through SRI has been widely published. The U.S. intelligence community, including NASA, the CIA, Defense Intelligence Agency and Army Intelligence, were involved with SRI.
Targ also worked at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space as a senior staff scientist where he designed and developed airborne laser systems for the detection of wind-shear and air turbulence.
One of his more recent books is titled, The Reality of ESP: A Physicist’s Proof of Psychic Abilities.
In this talk below, Targ discusses his early years from being a magician to becoming a psychic with remote viewing being an important focus. He mentions how many magicians supplement their tricks with psychic abilities.
Russell Targ also gets into his work at SRI with remote viewing. He worked on projects with the CIA, such as locating a downed Russian plane that had an important code book, searching for a kidnapped American general in Italy, looking into a Soviet weapons factory in Siberia, and more.
This was actually a planned TEDx talk, but later cancelled because of its content. TED tends to be careful with what they share publicly, so sometimes they don’t know if the talks are appropriate until they hear them. Rupert Sheldrake’s talk, “The Science of Delusion”, and Graham Hackcock’s, “War on Consciousness”, were also planned by TED but not promoted and released through them.
One of the things he mentions is a free mobile application called ESP Trainer. It’s said to help develop psychic abilities. It’s a simplistic design, with a game format for training where you pick one of four colored squares to see if you match the square the software has chosen. Over time you are meant to get better.
The actual software was developed under a NASA program by Russell Targ at SRI. The game states, “The purpose of the trainer is to allow you to become aware of what it feels like when you psychically choose the correct square. When you don’t have that special feeling, we encourage you to press the Pass button.” … “In a year long NASA program with 145 subjects (under Contract 953653 NAS7-100) many were able to significantly improve their scores. Four of the subjects improved their scores at the hundred-to-one level or better. This approach has been used with surprising success on Wall Street. But of course, past results are no guarantee of future performance.”
You can find ESP Trainer for iOS here. From my research, it’s not available on Android based devices.
